Bob Burg Interview: Why Go Givers Sell More

Welcome to the world of the “go-givers”.  If you are saying “what the heck is a go-giver?”, it’s cool.  I thought the word sounded a little goofy when I first heard it.  Let me assure that it is more than a word.  It is a lifestyle.  It is a movement.  To me, it is the ONLY way to run a business.  A very profitable way too!  Now, I know what you may be thinking… “I am in business to make money, not give it all away.”  You are absolutely right, unless, that is what you want to do.  Today, I am here to provoke some thoughts with the help of a friend on why giving will change your life and your bank account.

I recently had the chance to grill best-selling Author Bob Burg, who has become a great friend of mine.  In this video interview will break down the crazy idea that givers actually make more money.  We also talk about a whole range of topics including the Law of Value, authenticity, ego, networking.  Oh yeah, and Bob tell us his two things that make up his recipie for success for young entrepreneurs.  Hope you enjoy!

Here are a few notes from the interview:

“The opposite of a go-giver is not a go-getter, it’s a go-taker.”

“It’s about shifting your focus from getting to giving.”

“I believe in living on the creative plane rather than the competitive plane.”

“Most of us failed our way to success.  The key is did we fail forward or fail and get discouraged.”

“When you focus on what you don’t have, you will never be happy.”

“If you want to make a lot of money in sales, making money should never be your target.  Your target is serving people.  If you hit your target, you’ll get a reward and your reward will be money.”

    Get you business bumping for
    Black Friday! http://jonaemediainc.blogspot....

  • I admire both of you for different reasons, and Bob Burg is the star who, not only thanked me for a RT that I did of one of his tweets, but actually took the time to answer my tweets: WOW!... What it tells me is that no matter how high up he is in the success ladder, as an author & entrepreneur; he is walking his talk by providing VALUE all the time.. Exactly by being the perfect example of a GO-GIVER in action and with tangible results to prove his theory. So, THANK YOU & CHEERS!

Excellent Video Bro. Your questions were GREAT. My favorite parts are:
    - Focus on what you can do and not just competition.
    - Humbleness and humility to be confidant and learn from others
    - Focus on serving others!

Awesome interview here, glad to see you're doing well Brad. I resinated a lot with this interview as I'm very service oriented. I believe it's the only way to really succeed, remember to constantly give yourself away, gain those followers, create true value for people, once that's demonstrated...people will flock in support of you, and the products and the services you build. I'm connecting with this concept more and more at my project site and in developing my online biz. Keep it up, would love to connect sometime, maybe do an interview!

  • This is the same theory that Wallace D Wattles talks about in his book "The Science of Getting Rich". It sounds very innovative and true to me. Nice interview, thanks!

  • No problem dude. If you ever need anything, just let me know. You got my Twitter and you can catch the email and Skype on my site.

  • I like how he emphasizes go giver is the opposite of a taker. I think you GOTTA give without expecting anything back! unconditional giving is always the best way to live. NICE! "I believe on living in the creative plane instead of the competitive plane"
The ego is an interesting thing... I think Wayne dyer is extremely educated and valuable in the "ego arena" he understands it and really has helped me understand it in my life.
Loved the interview! great passion and guidance as always! Keep it up bro!

  • DBK-

Thank you brother. Bob gave a lot of good nuggets in this interview. I will have to look more at Dyer's books. Haven't read any. Appreciate you as a part of this community. Ciao mon!

  • I'm so glad that you got to do this with Bob! Bob and John are by far the most influential authors that I have read this year. Go-Givers Sell More and The Go-Giver completely changed the way I looked at business for the better!

    "Every go-getter is a go-giver" :)

hahaha at Bob not being good in school either, fits PERFECT for most of us here on UnStrapp'd. Great interview and I'll definitely be re-re-re-reading GGSM :)

  • Chris,

Thank you my friend. It has been great to get to know you and see you grow. I know you are an action taker and have big things brewing right around the corner. This is the foundation. Givers really do sell and make more. Keep hustlin baby!!!

  • This definitely is my foundation and I'm trying to build it up as strong as I can by learning from experts like yourself. Thank you for all you do, you've helped me so much over the past few months. Hustlin gets stuff done so I'll never stop!

  • mirkogosch

Bradley, thanks so much for bringing up this superb interview with one of my personal heroes. I love the Go-Giver book, have read it twice and will read it again and again. The whole concept Bob and David share has influenced me a lot and I can not thank those two guys enough for their awesome work. Besides that I am the living proof that Bob truly is an amazing Go-Giver and does not "just" write about it. It has been my tremendous pleasure to conntect with him on twitter and I look forward to meet him some time in the near future.

    Mirko

  • Mirko,

Thanks for the kind words. It is my pleasure. It is our job to keep passing on the word. Hope you continue to be part of the Unstrapp'd community!

  • Brad, another great interview! You are adding such great content here. I really enjoyed your question about what Bob looks for in a new entrepreneur that will let him know that they are going to be a success --> Confidence and Humility! Great question, great answer. "The Go-Giver," as recommended by you, really inspired me http://bit.ly/adGVFo I can't wait to read Go-Givers Sell More!!

  • Thanks Nick. Glad this one lived up to your standards. I was super impressed by that answer too. The book that really changed my perspective about humility is Aspire! by @KevinHall_Words. I don't say it often, but a life changing book for me. Thanks for the continued support NR.

  • Dude I love unstrapped great interview with the man,the myth, himself Bob Burg...

    Just sayin....

  • Hi everyone, thank you for your kind comments. They mean a LOT to me. Bradley, my good brother; you continue to amaze me. Thank you so much for putting this together!

  • My pleasure Bob. I love what I do. It's great to know a GIVER like you. Thanks for setting the bar high ;)

  • lauradeveausmith

You asked such great questions Brad. Very good interview.

'The Power of Now' also had a big impact on my life. It started me down the path of teaching yoga and exploring spirituality. Also 'Think and Grow Rich,' 'The 4-Hour Work Week,' 'The Presence Process' and now 'The Go-Giver' have been wonderful. Each one of these books ignited a little mental shift that in total has changed the way I see the world and myself. So much inspiring material out there.

  • Fantastic Video Interview! Several years ago in California I attended a workshop with Bob Burg teaching how to Cultivate a Network of Endless Referrals. It was priceless information. I am happy to see him teaching a Go-Giver strategy for entrepreneurs. These books are game changers!

  • Gracias Chris. Bob is the Networking king. That must have been aaaaaages ago ; ) Haha, I'm kidding with you man. You are the walking example of the principals he teaches. I am super impressed how you operate your business. My readers could learn a lot from you. Interested in a guest post?
